We wish we weren\u2019t worried about <\/span><b>snakes and spiders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when we first arrived. You\u2019re going to see them much less than you think. And practically never in the big cities and towns on the East Coast.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So we\u2019re telling you now, you <\/span><b>don\u2019t<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> need to check the toilets for spiders in your hostel in Melbourne. But it\u2019s not the worst idea when you\u2019re camping on the remote sand island of K\u2019Gari.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll most likely see a gigantic spider \ud83d\udd77\ufe0f in the rainforests &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where they belong! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And if you see a \ud83d\udc0d snake, they\u2019re more scared of you than you are of it. Yes, you\u2019d rather spend your money on other things. But in the time between us helping you set up your bank account and your first pay check landing &#8211; you\u2019re going to need some funds &#8211; and a way to get them.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is what<\/span><b> travel cards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are all about. You can move money really easily from your home bank account\u00a0<\/span>\ud83c\udfe6<span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">\u00a0and have dollars at your finger tips in seconds. They\u2019re normally also the best value when it comes to the associated fees of moving your hard earned savings to your new Australian bank account. And we know as backpackers that every dollar counts!\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We like to recommend <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wise.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but there are plenty of others too. You don\u2019t need to spend your money on a backpack to be a backpacker. Instead if you have a <\/span><b>soft shell suitcase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (easier for storing under bunk beds) that\u2019ll be fine! Then you can spend the money you would have spent on a backpack on a surf lesson \ud83c\udfc4. Now that sounds like a better idea to me.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>However<\/strong>, if you\u2019re planning on travelling around South East Asia while you\u2019re on this side of the world, this is where the backpack \ud83c\udf92is the clear winner. With less pavements, more potholes and just a much busier environment, a suitcase is just a lot more hassle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Otherwise use what you have, and <\/span><b>pack as light as you can<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; you\u2019ll thank your past self.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not sure where to start with your packing list? But one we got from our lovely community. As you travel up the East Coast and especially in the cities of Melbourne and Sydney you\u2019ll realise people have packed to go <em>out out<\/em>. You don\u2019t need much, but a cute top for girls and shirt or plain t-shirt for guys will see you through.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of the time?
